Best Garage Golf Simulator Installation — Proven 5-Star Home Builds

GARAGE GOLF SIMULATOR INSTALLATION

Garage Golf Simulator Installation

Turn an underused garage into a premium home golf simulator — year-round practice, entertainment, and resale value you can measure.

Designed Golf Simulators handles garage golf simulator installation for homeowners across the Greater St. Louis Metro. Garages have become our fastest-growing build type — the ceiling heights are often better than basements, the layouts are cleaner, and once climate is solved, garages give you the most flexibility of any room in the house.

GARAGE

As a lifetime golfer, the single most impactful decision I made to improve my game was an in-home golf simulator installation by Designed Golf. As an added bonus, all of our friends love to come over and play world-renowned courses in the comfort of our home.

Why This Matters

Why Garages Work So Well for Home Golf Simulators

Three bays, two bays, one bay, detached — doesn’t matter. What a garage golf simulator installation gives you that a basement often can’t is height. Modern garage ceilings routinely hit 10 or 11 feet, sometimes higher on attached bonus-room setups. That’s comfortable full-swing territory for every golfer in the household. Add the fact that most garages are already on their own electrical circuit and have a direct route for ventilation, and the build path becomes cleaner than a finished basement retrofit.

The tradeoff is climate. A garage in a Missouri winter is 25 degrees; a garage in a Missouri July afternoon is 100. Electronics, impact screens, and golfers all perform badly in both extremes. Every garage golf simulator installation we do starts with a climate conversation — insulation, HVAC, and sometimes a mini-split system are part of the real planning.

Attached vs. Detached Garages — Which Is Easier to Convert?

Attached garages are typically easier. Electrical is close to the main panel, HVAC can often be extended, and the space already has some insulation. The downsides: noise travels into the house, and losing a bay impacts resale value if it’s the only garage. Detached garages and pole barns give you complete separation, which is great for serious practice and late-night sessions — but require standalone climate, electrical, and sometimes water solutions.

Neither is inherently better. The right choice depends on how many bays you have, how you use the garage today, and whether a detached outbuilding on your property would be a better canvas. We’ve done beautiful garage golf simulator installation work in both configurations across Wildwood, Chesterfield, Defiance, and throughout St. Charles County.

Climate Control Is the First Real Decision

A Missouri garage without climate control is unusable for a golf simulator 4 to 5 months of the year — too cold in winter, too humid in summer. The question isn’t whether you need climate control, it’s what level. Options we recommend in order of cost: (1) insulate and seal the garage door + add a portable heater and dehumidifier for basic use, (2) install a mini-split heat pump for year-round conditioned comfort ($3,500–$6,000 typical install), (3) fully insulate walls and ceiling and extend home HVAC (larger investment, often done as part of a broader garage finish).

We’ll walk you through the right level during your consultation. A lot of our garage golf simulator installation clients choose option 2 — the mini-split is the sweet spot for most homes and dramatically extends how often the simulator actually gets used.

Garage Door Considerations — Yes, You Can Keep It Functional

The number-one question we get about garage golf simulator installation: “Do I have to give up using the garage door?” Short answer: no. We design most garage builds with a retractable or lifting enclosure system so the door opens normally when needed. For serious builds, some clients choose to permanently seal the door and re-side the opening for better insulation and a cleaner interior wall — but that’s an option, not a requirement.

The key is planning this decision upfront. Retractable enclosures cost more than fixed ones, and integrating them into the ceiling mount takes design work. Tell us in the consultation whether you want flexibility, and we’ll quote it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a custom home golf simulator cost?

Quality home simulators typically range from $10,000 on the entry side to $50,000+ for a premium fully-finished build. The biggest factors are launch monitor choice, space size, and finish level. We provide clear options at every tier during your free consultation.

How long does a golf simulator installation take?

Most home installs complete in 1 to 3 days once materials arrive. Hardware lead times (3–6 weeks typical) are usually the larger scheduling factor. We map the full timeline during design so you know what to expect.

Do you offer turnkey installation?

Yes. Designed Golf Simulators handles the entire build — consultation, space assessment, system design, installation, calibration, and walkthrough training. One team, one timeline, no coordinating contractors.

Which launch monitor is best for my space?

It depends on ceiling height, room depth, your goals, and budget. TrackMan needs more depth and suits serious players. Foresight fits tighter rooms with excellent data. TruGolf excels at entertainment. SkyTrak is the value option. We'll recommend honestly during your consultation.

Do you service simulators after installation?

Yes. Being local to the St. Louis metro means faster callbacks for software updates, recalibration, projector adjustments, and upgrade questions. Every install includes walkthrough training so you're confident running the system from day one.

Can I still use my garage for parking if I install a golf simulator?

Yes, in most builds. We use retractable or lifting enclosure systems so the garage door functions normally when you need to park. Some clients permanently dedicate the space for cleaner aesthetics and better climate sealing, but that's a choice, not a requirement. We plan this decision with you during the design phase.
